Bon Temps Rouler Cajun Throwdown Review

May 2, 2019 by AustinMusicUSA 2 Comments

Hey y’all it’s Thursday! That means the weekend is almost here and it’s time to see a show. I kind of went over what was going on this weekend around Texas and beyond, so today I’m going to report on something a little different. I would like to give a shout out to some good folks in Galveston who are starting a fantastic tradition for an extremely good cause. Last weekend, I went to a festival called the Bon Temps Rouler Cajun Throwdown. This was the first annual and benefits the St. Jude‘s Children’s Research Hospital. Daniel “Tiny” Guidry is the owner and operator of this event and is a very famous BOI (Born On Island) resident in Galveston, although he has deep Louisiana roots. What a fantastic cause to get behind!

Louisiana Knows How To Party!

Our neighbors to the east in Louisiana provided some of the finest cajun/zydeco bands you can find including: Wayne Toups, Frank Foster, Jason Cassidy, Jamie Bergeron, Travis Matte, Richard Le Bouef, Hannah Kay, Chris Poullard and Tommy Kib. Anytime you have a Cajun Throwdown, it’s safe to assume that you’ll get the opportunity to meet some fun cajuns. They are some crazy partying people! It’s just fun being in a crowd with them if nothing else, right? The infamous cajun party animal and music addict purple rain was in the house doing his thing. I got to meet this guy and he is absolutely awesome!

He lives life to the fullest with a smile on his face nearly all the time. He reminds me of Pete and Helen at the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival but that’s another story for another time. The music was great, the crowd was amazing, the sunset was beautiful and overall it was a great experience. I can’t wait to get back there next year. In the meantime, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana is coming up this weekend! If y’all need a true cajun fix, this party billed as the largest crawfish festival in the world is the place to be. I know this is off-topic and doesn’t relate to Austin music but with the smell of crawfish cooking in the air I had to let y’all know about this new tradition that benefits such a tremendous cause.

See y’all down the road, Craig Ward
