Live Music May 3-5
Hey everyone, how are y’all doing? It’s only Tuesday but it’s never too early to plan for the weekend and figure out which show you would like to see. I can’t do a road trip this weekend so I need to stay close to home. We decided to go see Mike & The Moon Pies at Main Street Crossing in Tomball, Texas. Then, to my disappointment, I found out the show was sold out. Time to go to Plan B which I haven’t figured out yet. Main Street Crossing is an awesome venue. It is the kind of venue where you go early, have dinner, then enjoy the show. The majority of the seating is at tables. You can either reserve an entire table for you and your group or if you go alone or in a small group you will most likely be seated at a table with other music fans. I like this particular set up and we have been many times. Each time we have been seated with other like-minded folks that are out to have a good time. We have met some really good folks and have had some great conversations. Today, I was talking to one of the owners and I found out that Main Street Crossing is actually a nonprofit organization that benefits many of the churches in Tomball. As a matter of fact, part of their venue is used as a church every single Sunday. That was interesting to learn. If you do go up there sometime, go early because the Main Street area in Tomball is filled with cool little shops, restaurants and an outside area directly behind Main Street Crossing called The Depot where visitors can sit outside and relax or let their children run crazy. It looks like my plans fell through but hopefully we will run up to Tomball and see a show soon.

Since a road trip is out of the question for me this weekend I think Plan B will be Stoney Larue and Sam Riggs at the Wharton County Fair. You can’t go wrong with a Stoney Larue show. If you are up for a road trip this weekend, Friday you can see 1100 Springs at Southern Junction in Royse City, Charlie Crockett, one of my favorites, along with Shiny Ribs will be doing ACL live at the Moody Theater in Austin, Casey Donahew Band at the Silver Saloon in Terrell, Texas or the Damn Quails at Hanks in McKinney, Texas (one of my favorite bar/restaurants). On Saturday, you can see Mike & The Moon Pies, Wade Bowen, Stoney Larue and Randy Rogers all at the Red Dirt Barbecue and Music Festival in Tyler, Texas. Apparently not a good weekend for me to pass on a road trip. Aaron Watson will be playing at the Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas and Bart Crow will be at the Bastrop Community Gardens Cook Off in Bastrop, Texas. If you’re in Austin on Friday you should stick around and see Dale Watson at The Broken Spoke. That’s one of the best venues to see him play in my opinion. Obviously, there is much more to do but those would be my first choices. Get on out and support these awesome bands but be safe and have a great time!
See y’all down the road Craig Ward
